How did we end up here?

Why did we leave California? Wait, I thought you lived in Colorado? We do, but we owned a condo in Palm Desert CA for the last 8 years to be near my grandmother, who is the adult in my life I am the closest too.

We have had an amazing time there and loved our nearest neighbors, but disliked the area in general. I’m going to offend a few people with this statement, but Palm Springs has always seemed to me to be the “rich white asshole capital of the world” in my opinion, and I state this solely based on my trips with kids to Costco. Of course, the reason we were there, was because of MY “rich white assholes” referring to my dad, uncle, and grandma who all also owned homes there, though grandma’s certainly not an ass and neither is my uncle, so really I’m just talking about my dad:) And the rest of the population...I’ve never gotten more dirty looks, rude comments, shopping cart assaults for having kids in a shopping cart than I have at the Costco in Palm Desert California. I literally would do anything to avoid it. And it’s not like this happened once, it would happen EVERY single time I would go there, over a period of 8 YEARS. Sorry, not sorry, it’s my opinion and you are welcome to go read someone else’s more politically correct blog if you choose.

Anyways, I digress. After Grandma moved back to our hometown in Kettle Falls, Washington, we waited a full year to decide to sell, solely because we did enjoy our neighbors so much. But once it was clear Grandma was moving back, it was time to sell.

So, we started looking for a rental in Golden, CO, where we live. We already have them here so it just makes sense. And frees up money to travel a bit more. However, even with a huge down payment, nothing was cash flowing and the rates of return were under 5% with little cash flow and over 50% down. That math, doesn’t math. So while talking to Brad he simply stated that he didn’t mind trading a “toy” for another toy. Meaning, the Cali condo, was never purchased as an investment...
